Bee a Friend

by Nicole K. Galbraith

“You always go to Daisy. You should be cross-pollinating. The queen isn’t going to be happy,” my co-worker bee said.

Every time I thought about visiting another flower, my wings froze. Daisy was my friend.  I didn’t know the other flowers.   What if they didn’t like me?

When I got to Daisy, I was shocked to see Stinger, an acquaintance from the hive, there drinking her nectar. I fly into him.

“Daisy is mine!”

He pushes back, and I feel the sting.

“Stop!” Daisy shouts. “It’s good to have more than one friend.  Buzz, you should meet flowers that are different from me.”

I flew away. Daisy wanted me to be friends with other flowers?  Meeting new flowers was scary.  I had to try.  I spotted an orange flower and flew over before my wings had a chance to freeze.

“Hello, I’m Buzz.”

“I’m Marigold. Want to be friends?”
