Children’s Book Review: Capybaras: Guardians of the Jungle by Adam Koss

My students are obsessed with capybaras, but I've had a hard time finding anything but picture books. That is why I requested a copy of this book. I was expecting a fun chapter book with capybaras. This far exceeded my expectations.

First, the writing. Chapter books tend to be written in a very simplistic manner, as is appropriate for their readers. Koss's writing style goes beyond that. He uses higher vocabulary and figurative language that are appropriate for young readers, helping them grow as readers.

Second, the plot. This is a fun story that will appeal to young capybara lovers with a sense of humor and a love of adventure. At the same time, the story has a strong message about protecting the environment.
